Life's A Journey
By Caitlin Morski
Life’s a journey, it’s the path you take.
The road will fork, it’s the choice you make.
Follow your feet and your heart, you’ll see
If you’re true to yourself, how happy you’ll be.
A woman’s at work punchin’ numbers again’
The patterns she sees are like old friends.
One thing stands out and her memory sparks
To a man she used to walk with in the dark.
He’s tall and sweet and he knows his mind.
Asks her to stay for all of time
But the job she loves wants her far away.
She tells him again she couldn’t stay.
She thinks about how her life would be
If she’d married him and had the kids she could see
But the job held her more than he ever could
So she gets back to work and thinks life is good.
Life’s a journey…
Grandkids on the rug and his son by his side.
Family’s loud and happy and they keep him alive.
Their life would be different if they’d moved to LA
When the job was offered with better pay.
He’s glad he opened that shop of his own,
Stayed in his hometown while the kids had grown.
He had to work harder for the little they got
But the life they’d lived was worth a lot.
Some kids stayed, some moved away.
The near ones he sees ‘most everyday,
And the family is close and they love him still.
When he thinks of them, his eyes will fill.
Life’s a journey…
We all have regrets we will carry through life.
The ‘what-if’s and ‘maybe’s, the ‘will-be’s and ‘might’s.
If you follow your heart, at least you’ll know
That you’d follow it again however it goes.
The gallery’s locked, it’s the end of the day
They walk hand in hand by the same old way.
They built their dream a few years ago
When one door closing gave her room to grow.
He’d loved her and art for most of his life
Then her husband left his kids and wife.
She tried not to rely on his help
But he couldn’t just let her punish herself.
The art came easy, the love wasn’t quite,
But the new gallery and family was right.
As their new life grew, their love came to be.
When one door closes, another springs free!
Life’s a journey…
