NEW WORDS FOR OLD SONGS
This page is our attempt to demonstrate the creativity, sense of humor, and wonderful ideas of a few of the great classrooms we've worked with over the years. All the songs featured below were the work of students in the classes cited. There are pictures, too, not necessarily of the classes whose songs we've shared. May we all have the joy of many more such songs and classes!
Lincoln School; Mrs. Ryan's second grade
Tune: Yankee Doodle
Yankee Doodle Loves Cursive Writing
Now that I’m in second grade
I love cursive writing,
Under-curves and loops and lines --
Cursive is exciting!
When I write I go so fast
All the lines are curly.
Slants and check-strokes on the e’s --
My pencil is so swirly!

Lemmer School; Ms Fisher's First Grade
Tune: The Wheels on the Bus
SOLIDS and LIQUIDS and GASES, OH MY!
I’m solid. I can’t change my shape,
Change my shape,
Change my shape.
I’m solid. I can’t change my shape.
I’m just me!
I’m liquid. I can change my shape,
Change my shape,
Change my shape.
I’m liquid. I can change my shape
To any form!
I’m a gas. You can’t see me,
Can’t see me,
Can’t see me.
I’m a gas. You can’t see me,
But you all can breathe me!

Big Bay School; Mrs. Haindl's Fourth Grade
Tune: Yankee Doodle
Drive across the Mackinac Bridge.
Head for the Kid’s Museum.
Stop and visit Tahquamenon Falls --
You’ve really gotta see ‘em!
If you like to hunt and fish,
Swim, shop, camp or ski,
If you like a lot of room,
Come visit the U. P.!

Head for Garden and Fayette
To see a really old town.
The Garden Jets have got to be
The best ball team around!
If you like to hunt and fish,
Swim, shop, camp or ski,
If you like a lot of room,
Come visit the U. P.!
We’ll spend some time on sandy beaches,
Climb the Pictured Rocks,
See a hundred waterfalls,
And, finally, the Soo Locks.
If you like to hunt and fish,
Swim, shop, camp or ski,
If you like a lot of room,
Come visit the U. P.!

Rapid River School; Mrs. Viau's First Grade
Tune: Jack and Jill
MICHIGAN COLORS
Blue for sky
And lakes nearby
And summer's eye so sleepy.
Green for trees
With buzzing bees
And frogs, swimming and leaping
Berries red
And overhead
Are apples, bugs and red birds.
White for snow
To sled and throw.
We feed the hungry deer herds.

Lakeview School; Mr. Miele's Fourth Grade
Tune: Somewhere Over the Rainbow
Somewhere in the Sammamish, rivers flow
Filled with sockeye salmon, Chinook and the huge Coho.
It's a home for the wildlife -- people too
We all share in the shining waters of crystal blue.
Issaquah and Mill Creek Park
Hobart, Kirkland, Everett and Bellevue
And many more too!
Please help stop the pollution! Use your head .
Help us save the gorgeous Sammamish watershed!
