Thrush

by Kathryn Morski

Okay.  I don’t use hard chords.  Writing them is sometimes hard, though!  The G+ chord is really 2nd finger on the 2nd fret on the A string, and 4th across the 3rd fret on the B and E strings.  If you’d rather use other fingers, that’s okay, too.  The Dm2 (if that’s what it is) is really just a Dm with the 3rd finger moved back to the 2nd fret on the B string.  See?  No hard chords!

     C                                                       G+5Bbs                                                      Am
I'm tired of fights and promises.  I'm tired of trying to please you and not making it.
    Dm                     Dm2?                  G7                                                       C             G
I'm tired of having no time left for me, of trying to laugh and ending faking it.
            C                                                               A
What happened to those words we shared, about the value of the souls
              Dm                     Dm2
     we'd come to know?
            G7
What happened to those evenings when I'd lie down in your arms,
    G7                                                   C                     Bb7      C          G7
Listen to the thrush down in the meadow?

It seems that all those dreams we shared are turning into how you think it's supposed to be.
It seems my dreams are brushed aside, and just the daily chores are where you're needing me.
I love the man I still can see, behind your tired face, behind the frowns you show.
I long to lie down in your arms and listen to the thrush,
Singing like a flute down in the meadow.

I don't want you to change your life for me.  I only wish you'd sometimes notice mine.
I'd like to share a dream again, to have the chance to play together, feeling fine.
Let's spend a day just slowing down, relaxing from the sunrise to the sunset's glow.
Then wrap me in your loving arms.  We'll listen to the thrush,
Singing like a flute down in the meadow!
