Weeds In The Garden

by Kathryn Morski

There are weeds in the garden, and she calls them by name:  Hawkweed, chicory, Queen Anne's Lace.
G               Am                 G+Bbs              C                      G                 Em
Though she did not plant them there, she loves them all the same for their wild perfection,
Am7       D
and their careless grace.

And the seasons, spinning to a longer tune, wrench the days of our lives away.

But her love, and her joy, and her peaceful heart will move with her from day to day.

The feet that once danced so have now slowed to a walk but the smiling voice is still as sweet and alive,
And I'd sit for hours just to hear her talk or to share her stories of the time gone by
While the clouds paint pictures, and she weaves a web that's a dream of the days to come.
She's a joy!  She's a friend.  She's a living bridge that leads to where I started from.

And I asked her for the secret, and she said, with a grin,

"When love brings a dream to your waiting heart --  let it in!  Let it in!"

There are weeds in the garden, just a part of the plan.  Tomatoes bloom like summer never ends,
And her eyes see beyond them to the seed and the spring and the vines next summer; fruit she'll share with friends.
And the song of the Seasons is the tune that she hums, or the one at the end of the day,
And her love, and her joy, and her peaceful heart will shine on us to show the way.

And I asked her for the secret, and she said, with a grin,
"When love brings a dream to your waiting heart --  let it in!  Let it in!"
