Something About The Sky

By Kathryn Morski

Em                                    Am                   Em
My daddy loved the prairie; it was something about the sky,
Em                                      Am                    B7
How it rose so deep and endless, drew the soul and filled the eye.
C              Em                    C                         B7
There was nothing there to block the view, or to stop the fresh, sweet wind,
C                    Em                  C           B7             Em
And he loved to watch the clouds pile up and blow away again.

      Am                                    Em
It was something about the wind, it was something about the sky.
      Am                    Em            C           B7                Em
My daddy loved the prairie; it was something about the sky.

My mom came from the city, and her views were not the same.
She liked her concrete sidewalks, and she liked her nature tame.
And she said the wind that howled and roared just made her want to cry,
And when a billion stars blazed from the black, she felt buried by the sky.

It was something about the wind, it was something about the sky.
She said that she felt buried.  It was something about the sky.

So he planted trees beside the house, and a garden full of flowers,
   C                          Em                         C                        B7
Made feeders for the songbirds.  She would watch them there for hours.

I thought that Mom would move to town after Daddy died last year,
But she says the sky sings to her, now, and she feels his presence near.
She says the gentle wind feels like his touch, and the blue looks like his eyes,
And the clouds he used to love so much come and visit in the skies.

And it’s something about the wind, it’s just something about the sky.
She says she feels his presence near.  It’s just something about the sky.
It was something about the wind, it was something about the sky.
My daddy loved the prairie.  It was something about the sky.
